Julia Wells
Julia completed undergraduate degrees in chemistry and history, and finished her master's thesis, 'Amateur Medicine in British East and South-Central Africa, 1890-1939,' in May 2016 at Victoria University of Wellington. Her master's examines the widespread phenomenon of home treatment by white settlers in European and African communities in Kenya and Rhodesia, and argues that it was a distinctive body of practice that formed an essential element of the colonial medical system. Her other research interests include the twentieth century transnational tropical medical community and colonial African environmental, medical, and social history.
