Known as ‘Dick’ to his NZ colleagues
Postgraduate training in England 1956 – 1958. Short-term appointments at a number of London Hospitals, including a spell as Registrar, Hammersmith Hospital.
On his return to NZ, brought back skills in epidural anaesthesia, and pioneered its use in obstetrics.
Full-time Specialist Anaesthetist, National Women’s Hospital, Auckland 1958 – 1963
Director of Anaesthesia, Royal Hospital for Women, Paddington, Sydney 1963 – 1984
Visiting Anaesthetist at various Auckland Hospitals, mainly North Shore Hospital, 1984 – 1990
