About the Wellington Medical History Society

The Wellington Medical History Society (WMHS) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of medicine in the Wellington region. Through research, archival work, and community engagement, the Society highlights the stories, milestones, and individuals that have shaped local healthcare over the years.
As a multi-disciplinary group with a keen interest in medical history, we also share and celebrate our research, experiences and topics we are currently investigating from all historical periods and locations.
Our main contact is through monthly face to face meetings, where a topic is presented to the group. This is done through voluntary sign up to the year’s programme by members.
We welcome anyone with an interest in medical history-you do not need a professional health background. We also have a large email database of members who are unable to attend monthly meetings, but a keen to stay in touch. Membership is free.
