    Dr Aine McCoy

    Aine qualified MB BCh BAO at Queen’s University Belfast in 1975 and came to Wellington in 1976 to work as a house surgeon then registrar at Wellington Hospital.
    In 1979 she undertook further studies in General Practice in Northern Ireland then returned to Wellington in 1982 where she worked as a GP in Miramar until her retirement in November 2018.

    Aine was a member of the New Zealand Medical Women’s Association, serving as National President in 1992. Aine’s interest in the history of women in medicine was sparked when in 1986,
    the Association funded an Oral History Project to record the stories of senior women doctors who had qualified and worked in New Zealand.
    The collection of 22 life stories is held in the Oral Archives section of the Alexander Turnbull Library.
