Born Argyleshire, Scotland 1848 Died Auckland 16/1/1924
Before coming to NZ, he worked in Bombay for 3 years, during the plague epidemic.
First registered as a medical practitioner in NZ 26/2/1883
He was appointed Resident Surgeon at Auckland Hospital in March 1883, succeeding the aging and legendary Dr Thomas Moore Philson. He was instrumental in the establishment of a proper nursing service and a number of other reforms, before resigning in August 1883 to enter private practice.
Appointed Lecturer in Pathology at the Otago Medical School in November 1883, but didn’t take up the appointment.

He then returned to Auckland, practising from an address in Manakau Rd, Parnell until around 1920 when he retired.
Married Mary Eliza Kissling ( former Lady Superintendent, Wellington Hospital) in April 1885
