Educated at Otago Boys’ High School, Christ’s College Canterbury, Otago and Edinburgh Universities
While a medical student he went as a dresser with Kitchener’s army to the Soudan War

Then studied in England and on the Continent, before coming to NZ
Commenced practice as an EENT specialist in Wellington 1887
Honorary Ophthalmic Surgeon, Wellington Hospital 1890 – 1903
Boer War service
In 1903, visited England & the Continent, studying EENT, 1st in London, then Rostock, Berlin, Vienna and Paris.
Member of Wellington Hospital Board
Severe episode of typhoid fever 1922, with poor health thereafter.
